SEND and Equality

Hannah’s School believes that equal opportunities, is about helping all students to achieve their potential. The school is, therefore, committed to offering a service which provides equality of opportunity and freedom from discrimination. We take steps to ensure that the rights of the individual are protected at all times.

Hannah’s School has provided a Charter of Students Rights which includes:

  1. Being valued as an individual.
  2. Being treated with dignity and respect.
  3. Being loved and cared for as a child or young person first.
  4. Being safe.

Five Golden Guidelines our students follow are:

  1. Treat other people as you would like them to treat you.
  2. Listen to the person you should be listening to.
  3. Be polite, well mannered and helpful.
  4. Always try your best.
  5. Keep your hands, feet and unkind words to yourself.

The Dame Hannah Rogers Trust has always had a commitment to oppose discrimination and an overriding aim to ensure that no job applicant, employee or student receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of age, being or becoming a transsexual person, being married or in a civil partnership, being pregnant or having a child, disability, race including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion, belief or lack of religion / belief, sex, sexual orientation or is disadvantaged by our processes or protocols.

Hannah’s School supports the philosophy of inclusive education. All students have an entitlement to an education appropriate to their needs and potential. We offer our students an inclusive sensory curriculum, which is broad, balanced and differentiated to meet individual needs.

We have good links with the local community. Students take part in a range of visits and experiences in and around Exeter, Plymouth and Ivybridge.

We welcome young people from local schools into Hannah’s School and provide regular placements for young people undertaking work experience as well as a range of professionals.

Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND Policy)

Dame Hannah Rogers School has a policy for Special Educational Needs and Disability, as required by the Education (SEN) (Information) (England) Regulations 1999 and as also required by the 2014 Code of Practice. Details of the implementation of this policy are reviewed annually within our School Improvement Plan, which is available to all parents.
